現在の日本では、年間27万件の建物が取り壊され、その多くが廃棄処分されています。
本来、木造とは部材の再利用が容易であり、かつてはその「循環」によって日本の空間と風景の歴史性は保たれていました。
その「循環」を再解釈し、使用する建材の殆どを木造家屋から採取することで、大阪万博に相応しいメッセージ性と空間を創出しようと考えました。

屋外のトイレの屋根に、古い木造家屋から「小屋組」のみを採取、鉄骨で組んだ盆栽棚のようなフレームに丁寧に再構築します。
使用した「小屋組」は会期後に全国各地の家屋へとリユースされていきます。

In Japan today, 270,000 buildings are demolished annually, and many are disposed of. Traditionally, wooden structures are easily reusable because the components can be easily reused, and this “circulation” was what maintained the historical significance of Japan’s space and landscape. By reinterpreting this “circulation” and sourcing the majority of building materials from wooden houses, we aim to create a space and message suitable for the Osaka World Expo.

For the roof of the outdoor toilet, we took only the “small house components” from old wooden houses and carefully reconstructed them on a frame made of iron beams, like a bonsai shelf. The “small house components” used will be reused in houses across the country after the event.
